Removing an asset from a catalog

You can remove an asset from a catalog when you no longer need it. If you change your mind, you can restore an asset from the trash back into the catalog. You can permanently delete an asset by deleting it from the trash.

When you create a new catalog, you can decide how you want to configure removing assets. You can either select to purge the assets automatically from the trash and get them permanently deleted immediately after the removal or 30 days after the removal, in which case the assets remain in the trash for the next 30 days and you can restore them if needed.

All previously created catalogs have Never purge assets option selected by default. You can change this setting to any other of the purge options on the catalog Settings page.

Alternatively, you can use Watson Data API to configure removing assets. If you use an explicit purge parameter to be passed to the API, the catalog UI configured asset removal settings get overridden.

When you remove a connection asset, the data assets that depend on the connection stay in the catalog, but you won’t be able to preview their data or add them to projects.

Required permissions

You can remove assets from a catalog if both of the following conditions are true:

• You have the Admin or Editor role in the catalog.
• You are the asset owner or a member of the asset.
