Setting up the default inventory

A default inventory is a platform catalog that provides a repository for inventory assets. It is required for governing external models or managing attachments and reports. You can add an unlimited number of collaborators and connection assets to share governance artifacts across an organization.

Requirements

Before you create the default inventory, review the required permissions and requirements.

Required permission
You must have the IAM Administrator role in the IBM Cloud account.
To view your roles, go to Administration > Access (IAM). Then, select Roles in the IBM Cloud console.
Storage requirement
Specify the IBM Cloud Object Storage instance that is configured during IBM Cloud account setup.
If you are not an administrator for the IBM Cloud Object Storage instance, the storage instance must be configured to allow catalog creation.

Creating the default inventory

To create the default inventory:

  1. Choose AI Governance -> Inventories from the main navigation list.
  2. When prompted, click Create Default Inventory.
  3. Select the IBM Cloud Object Storage service. If you don't have an existing service instance, create a IBM Cloud Object Storage service instance and then refresh the page.
  4. Click Create. The default inventory is created in a dedicated storage bucket.

Adding collaborators to the inventory

Initially, you are the only collaborator in the catalog. To add collaborators:

  1. Click the Settings menu of the default inventory and select Set Collaborators.
  2. Add collaborators and assign access roles.

Access roles for inventory collaborators

  • Assign the Admin role to at least one other user so that you are not the only person who can add collaborators.
  • Assign the Editor role to all users who are responsible for managing and adding assets to the catalog.
  • Assign the Viewer role to the users who need to use them in projects.
Tip: You can give all the users access to the Default Inventory by assigning the Viewer role to the Public Access group. By default, all users in your account are members of the Public Access group.
