Discovering remote data sources in Watson Query

Watson Query Managers and Engineers can use automated discovery to streamline the process of accessing remote data sources.

Before you begin

To access data that is stored in remote data sources in Watson Query, you must install a remote connector. Additionally, you must ensure that databases are using the standard ports for each database type.

Procedure

To search remote data sources, follow these steps.

  1. Click Data > Data virtualization.
  2. On the Data sources page, click Add connection > Search via remote connectors.
You can see a list of hosts and their associated data sources.
  3. Optional: Discover data sources by scanning another host.
You can find data sources that are using standard ports only.
Important: Contact your network administrator to ensure that scanning hosts for running services does not breach any IT policies of your organization.
    1. Click the action menu on remote connector that you want to scan and click Search data sources via another host.
    2. Specify the name of the host that you want to scan and click Search.
Expand a remote connector to see the list of remote data sources that you can use in Watson Query. You can now virtualize data on these remote data sources.
